Electric guitars and the different types the same

There are many types of electric guitars and the major categories are according to the number of strings and the body of the guitar. Electric guitars are simply guitars that use pickups to convert the vibration of the strings, which are mostly steel or nickel-cored, into an electric current. With a good amplifier and a speaker, the sound produced is made much louder. These guitars came into being after it was realized during the 1930 and 1940 that the sound produced was not strong enough for everybody to hear. Necessities being the mother of invention, amplifiers were incorporated into the electric guitars of today and this has not changed much in principal for over 70 years now. Electric guitars have a lot of variations, but some things like the material for the body, the shape of the guitar and arrangement of the bridge, the neck, and pickups on the body has remained constant over the years. Solid body electric guitars are one of the many types of this popular guitar and as the name indicates, they do not have a hollow internal cavity as most guitars do. They also notably lack sound holes common in many guitars. Solid body guitars are mostly done by hardwoods such as mahogany and ebony which vibrate better than softwood. They have six steel strings just like other guitars and produce an impressive sound when connected to a good amplifier and a speaker just like other with other guitars. They are however not as popular as their brothers.

The other type is the hollow body guitar which works in a similar manner to the solid body electric guitars, the principle of operation being the vibration of the cavity and then the pickups converting a combination of strings and body vibration into an electric signal. The other types according to body are metal body and acoustic-electric.

Types of electric guitars according to the number of strings include those that have fewer that six strings, seven strings, eight string guitars, nine sting, ten string, and twelve string. The number of strings depends on personal preference same as use of a good amplifier, shop around to see what best suits you body.

There are other methods of classifying these guitars such as according to the number of bridges such as third bridge guitar which has an additional bridge and according to necks such as double neck guitars. Other forms of classifying electric guitars are according to the cost, aesthetic value and other considerations.
